Incorporating Art in your Home
To say we love incorporating art in a space is an understatement. Art in your home can be like the perfect pair of earrings that complete an outfit or a statement that captures your attention and encourages conversation. Bringing in the right pieces of art is so important when wanting to make a home feel like yours. Today we will cover how to choose art that not only compliments the design of your home but also speaks to your style.
Make it Authentically YOU
While it is aesthetically pleasing to choose art that is cohesive with the colors and design of a space, the most important part is selecting art that you gravitate toward. Even as Interior Designers, we encourage our clients to select their own art for their home as it expresses their personality and can carry personal significance. Whether it is an exquisite painting, a favorite photograph, or a family heirloom, the art you bring into your living space should uplift and speak to you. While every art piece doesn’t need to deeply resonate, prioritize the pieces that mean the most to you. Don’t be afraid to go big on size with the pieces you love; let them capture your attention and set the tone of the room.

Think of the atmosphere
When deciding what art to place in each room, think of the feeling or mood you want to set and then choose art that evokes those feelings. Take a moment to ponder each artwork’s colors, style, and subject matter.
Soft, cool tones often create a calming atmosphere, perfect for your bedroom where you rest and wind down. Bold, vibrant colors can bring energy and liveliness into a gathering area like your living or dining room. In your office, where you want to be inspired and productive, using abstract art can spark creativity and reflection. You can also use pieces that feature landscapes that bring a sense of serenity. Art is a powerful tool that can shape your home’s ambiance and influence how you and your guests feel within each room.

Think of Size
Art can serve as a focal point that immediately draws attention or a subtle addition to a room. We recommend using larger artwork on any prevalent empty wall and above a bed, sofa, or console table. We love placing art at the end of the hall as it serves as a focal point that guides you through the space. Not only will it make the room feel more complete, but it can serve as a great conversation starter. Especially for the statement pieces, invest in a picture frame that pairs nicely with the art. A solid frame will effectively add depth to the piece. You can also create little moments using smaller pieces between windows and doors or on the shelf. We especially love adding these subtle pieces in kitchens, bathrooms, and nooks.
We hope this inspires you to curate a collection of art that harmonizes with each space and adds meaning to your home. Have fun with it by allowing yourself to explore various styles, mediums, and artists until you find pieces you absolutely love.
