How to Style a TV in your home
TV sets have become an essential feature for every home, particularly in gathering areas such as the living room or great room. Knowing how to style a TV in your home can be challenging when you want an inviting, functional, and well-designed space. Today, we’ll explore ways to effectively style a TV so you can enjoy TV entertainment without compromising the room’s overall feeling.
Correct Placement
The first thing to consider is finding the right placement. We always look for areas above a fireplace, console, or credenza, which will eliminate the empty space below the TV. You can also place your TV within built-in shelving for greater storage space and overall visual appeal. When deciding how high or low to mount your TV, we recommend using a TV height calculator to find the optimal height and viewing angle.

Picture TV’s
We love the new option of a picture or frame TV. Unlike other TVs, the screen changes into an art piece when turned off. This allows your TV to better blend with your decor and complement the room rather than clash. It also is more psychologically uplifting as your eyes are drawn to artwork rather than an empty black screen. With a picture TV, there is no gap mount creating a sleek and polished look. Our recommended picture TV is The Frame by Samsung.
Because Picture TVs are more expensive and have slightly lower audio and definition quality, we recommend using a standard TV for rooms where the TV is meant to be the focal point, such as a family room, game room, or theater.

Blend the TV
Other stylish elements will help a TV feel more welcoming. The first is always to mount the TV and hide hanging cords for a cleaner look. Another way to blend the TV is by surrounding it with art, plants, or accessories. Adding layers will help the big black box stay incorporated instead of jumping out. It’s also visually appealing to reduce the contrast of the black display by using wall moldings, textured walls, or colored walls for the backdrop rather than a plain white wall.

Is a TV always needed?
A couple of years ago, we were touring a gorgeous Parade of Home in Northern Utah; it easily was one of our favorites. When we left, the contractor of the home asked us how many TVs we saw in the house. To our surprise, there was only one in the entire home! While TVs can bring fun and engaging entertainment, this experience made us ask ourselves, “How many TVs do we really need?” Having a TV is neither good nor bad, but we always invite our clients to think about their goals for each room. Would a TV distract or add to that goal? If you want more social interaction, intimate moments, and lively conversation, a TV might not be necessary for that room.
