How to Decorate The Thanksgiving Table
Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, gathering, and of course, delicious food shared with loved ones. As you prepare for this beloved holiday, one thing that can truly set the mood and reflect the significance of this particular meal is a well-decorated Thanksgiving table. Whether hosting a grand feast or a more intimate gathering, adding simple details can make all the difference. In this guide, we’ll take you through an easy step-by-step process so you can beautifully decorate the Thanksgiving table for you and your loved ones.
Things you’ll need:
Plates
Napkins (use cloth for a more sophisticated look)
Silverware
Glasses
Bowls or smaller plate
Candles
Greenery
Runner
Optional Accessories:
Placemats
Napkin rings
Pumpkins
Ornaments
Pine Cones
Fall Leaves
Garland
Plates, Silverware, and Drinkware
Once you’ve gathered all the items you’ll need for your Thanksgiving table, begin with the place settings. First, lay down the largest plate (or placemat if using one) as the foundation, and continue to stack any smaller plates or bowls on top. Next, arrange the silverware and drinkware according to the picture below. You can then tie or fold the napkins and place them on top of the plate or under the silverware (whatever you think looks best). For the finishing touch, we set a small sprig on each plate. You can use any other greenery, flowers, seating cards, or even pumpkins to add some layers to the setting.
Runner & Centerpieces
Once your place settings are in order, it’s time to work on the table’s centerpiece. This can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like. We used a runner, greenery from the yard, candles, and small fall-inspired accessories.
Lay the table runner down the center of the table; you can even take a tablecloth and fold it to serve as a runner. We then gathered figs and evergreens from the yard and placed them in the center along the runner. You could also use pumpkins or garlands. Finally, add candles, pumpkins, or other small accessories throughout the table, filling in the gaps to create a harmonious balance.
Tip: If you are decorating the table for Christmas, you can incorporate ornaments for the centerpieces.
Elevate the Holiday
We know it can be easy to revert to paper plates and plastic cups with company over and cooking demands. However, decorating or setting the table will bring that extra touch, making Thanksgiving dinner feel like a more special occasion. Don’t forget to have fun with it, invite others to help, and not stress about it looking perfect; it’s all about creating memories. Setting the Thanksgiving table has become one of our cherished traditions we look forward to every year.
We hope you enjoy the busy but wonderful holiday season with your loved ones. While sitting at the table surrounded by family and friends, we hope you can take a moment to reflect on what you are grateful for – one of the best ways to celebrate this holiday. Happy Thanksgiving!
