The Heart of St. George
It’s no surprise that St. George, Utah, has become a beloved place to live with its beautiful views, amazing weather (except for those intense summers), and surrounding state parks. Beyond that, St.George has much to offer from a design and architectural perspective. Today we’re diving deep into the heart of St. George, exploring its distinctive qualities, and highlighting noteworthy aspects for your future design endeavors. Whether you’re considering building a home or starting a remodel in the area, we hope this can serve as a resource and guide to all this city offers.
Natural Elements
With St. George’s unique lava rock, red mountains, and desert landscape, it only makes sense that the homes uniquely share these natural elements. Incorporating the surrounding rock and colors in the exterior landscapes and home surfaces is always a favorable choice when designing your home. Even though the homes featured below are entirely different styles and were built over 150 years apart, incorporating the natural landscape serves as a timeless look as it complements the surrounding area.

Historic St. George
One of the most charming features of St. George is the historic architecture. While strolling down Main Street, you can find shops, restaurants, museums, and churches within the classic historic homes and buildings. While admiring the historic homes, you’ll often find traditional elements in the structure with European details due to the rich heritage of those who originally lived there. Some of our favorite areas to explore are Ancestor Square, Green Gate Village, Townsquare, and Main Street Santa Clara.

We love seeing the bright red sandstone in all the original buildings on main street square. You’ll notice the classical corbels and medallions on the Tabernacle that bring character and detail. Even the crafted stone headers above the windows bring depth and texture. Just like with any home, building, or space, the craftsmanship and fine details truly elevate the overall appearance.

Developing Areas
Whether you want to live in a secluded area surrounded by nature or a lively neighborhood for family life, Southern Utah offers something for everyone. If the red mountains and stunning sunsets call your name, we recommend checking out Kayenta, Entrada, and The Ledges. If you love parks, pickleball, and surrounding views, Little Valley is the new place to be. As for the beach and resort lifestyle, Desert Color is another area that offers vacation rentals and homes. Lastly, Stone Cliff is a nice private community that offers panoramic views of the city.

Throughout Southern Utah, you’ll often find modern elements in various styles to complement the desert landscape. The interior styles featured below are modern traditional, adobe, farmhouse, and beach. While your home should speak according to your style, we always encourage looking to the surrounding landscape for inspiration. Incorporating natural elements through colors, finishes, and structure can help everything feel cohesive inside and out.

Our Favorites
We couldn’t write about the “Heart of St. George” without mentioning some of our favorite things to do, see, eat, and explore in the area. Taking in the views from your car or on a hiking trail at Snow Canyon State Park and Zion National Park is an absolute must. At both parks, you’ll find trails for all ages and abilities. As mentioned, walking around Townsquare has much to offer with shops, good places to eat, a water park, and the children’s museum. While in the area, we always make sure to stop by our favorite café and bakery, Farmstead. If you want a fine dining experience with views overlooking the St. George Valley, you’ll enjoy Cliffside Restaurant.
